Blind

Is it possible that you’ve gone somewhat blind to God’s will for your life?
Blind
2 Peter 1:8-9

We go blind to things. Driving past the land-fill, nose-blind. Constant environment, don't notice things, people or changes in them! Sometimes it's a dangerous blindness. Texting while driving, blind to the road. Blinded by emotions, like love, hate, fear. Or going blind to the needs of others. Possibly, blind to our own spiritual needs. How does a person who once knew Jesus, become spiritually blinded? Why would someone choose to stay spiritually blind? Jesus teaches us in Matthew 13, through a parable, listen closely and try to discern His point! Read Matthew 13:1-9, physical things to teach a spiritual point!

1. Going Blind to Spiritual Instruction
A. When we refuse to develop spiritually, we miss the point! - Hebrews 5:11-14
1. Ignorance, some don't know any better, no excuse - Acts 17:40, most cruel moment/crime in history based on ignorance - Luke 23:34, didn't excuse them, Acts 2:23, 36, 38
2. Stubbornness, some only see what they want to see - Acts 7:51-52
a. ILLUSTRATION: C.S. Lewis Quote, "the Abolition of Man" (Glass)
3. Apathy, some are indifferent, completely blinded - 2 Corinthians 4:3-4
B. Attend all the church services one wants, but if spiritually blind, meaning/purpose escapes
C. Exercise your spirituality by serving others, reading the Bible, praying for spiritual clarity!
1. We are not physical being having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a physical experience!

2. Persistent Listening/Learning Key to Spiritual Growth
A. Listen as Jesus explains to His disciples why He used parables: Matthew 13:10-17
B. Listening to the truth actually grows your capacity for understanding truth! Just as ignoring the truth will lead to spiritual blindness - Romans 10:17, John 8:30-32
C. Belief is a discipline. "In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins, not through strength, but through persistence." - Matthew 7:7-8
D. Here in Matthew 13:12, Jesus Himself tells us why so many go spiritually blind. They don't persist in their faith.

3. Have you lost Sight or are you Steadfast? - Matthew 13:18-23
A. Blind or bold? Hot or cold? Active or apathetic?
1. Footpath/don't understand - vs. 19
2. Rocky Soil/no depth, not able to persist - vs. 20-21
3. Among thorns/choked out by cares & worldly riches - vs. 22
4. Good soil/truly listen, persist & produce! - vs. 23
B. You will become what you are becoming right now - Hebrews 10:35-39
C. ILLUSTRATION: Spiritual Dashboard

Conclusion:

Is it possible that you've gone somewhat blind to God's will for your life? Has your love for this world blinded you from seeing clearly the love of your Savior? Repent of your idleness, cast away your apathy and be renewed for persistent growth in your faith!! We need a long look at the cross, to see the One who died for our sins, to see the One who spent His life seeking and saving, to see the One who loves us more than life itself.

If the love of Christ does not soften our hearts, If our failures do not open our eyes,
Then I know of nothing else that will.
