Building Resilient Faith

Building Resilient Faith #8 – Meaningful Intergenerational Relationships
Series:Resilient
Building Resilient Faith #8
Meaningful Intergenerational Relationships

Two words...Isolation. Mistrust.

Definition: Being devoted to fellow believers who we enjoy spending time with and whose lives we want to emulate...in other words they are people we want to be around and be become.

Resilient Disciples
  • Resilient disciples are part of churches where their churches are warmer and more positive than what others experience.
  • If we want to raise up resilient disciples, we can't just come in, get what we need and walk away, and then do it all over again the next week.
Two Signposts...
  • One is aspirational
  • One is Reality based
Aspirational...
  • The church represents the best example of what God can do with human community.
  • 1 Corinthians 1:10; 1 Thessalonians 5:14; Colossians 3:13
Reality Based...
  • Relationships are never perfect.
  • Dietrich Bonhoeffer, "We don't merely bear one another's burdens; the true burden is bearing one another."

  • You are going to have to put yourself out there in order to grow in this area.
  • We give our kids the greatest chance to build resilient faith as the number of people on that page increases.
2 Timothy 2:2; Titus 2:2-8
  • We destroy isolation and mistrust with meaningful relationships.
People are asking...
  • Am I loved?
  • Who are my real friends?
  • Does anyone care about me?
The church has an amazing opportunity to address the epidemic of isolation and mistrust... we can counteract the effects of this world.
