Wounded and Weary (PM)

There will always be times of trouble, crisis that try our faith and our resolve to faithfully obey God’s Word!
Wounded and Weary
A Remedy for Troubled Hearts

John 14:1-6

1. Introduction:
  1. The hours preceding Calvary.
  2. Jesus was concerned about their welfare.
  3. John 14:1
2. Why were they troubled?
  1. The imminent death of their Master – Matthew 16:21-23
  2. One of themselves would betray the Lord – John 13:21
  3. They heard Jesus tell Peter, that he would deny the Lord before morning – John 13:36-38
3. The solution to their troubles was Biblical faith!
  1. John 14:1 – “…believe in God, believe also in Me.”
  2. “believe” is in a present tense, meaning “keep on believing”
  3. Not just a suggestion, a command!
  4. Jesus says that an enduring faith would carry them through!
  5. Revelation 12:10-11
4. The solution to our troubles is a Biblical faith also!  (too simple?)
  1. This faith must consist of several components:
    1. Be exposed to the will of God, learning essential, sacred truths – Romans 10:17, John 6:44-47, Ephesians 5:17
    2. Faith entails a soul disposition that trusts the Lord and then actually commits to His care – John 8:30-48, John 12:42-43
    3. True belief, true faith, submits to the will of the Lord – John 3:34, Hebrews 5:5-9
5. Conclusion:
  1. There will always be times of trouble, crisis that try our faith and our resolve to faithfully obey God’s Word!
  2. The Greek word used here for “believe” and used elsewhere in the Scriptures is a word that means: a belief that embraces Christ, “characterized by a conviction regarding the facts about Jesus, a willingness to trust Him, an obedience to His will!” – J.H.Thayer’s Greek Lexicon
  3. There are things that we cannot change, we can learn to survive by immersing ourselves in a deep and sustained Biblical faith.  Pursue this remedy that Jesus prescribed for His disciples!
  4. Is your heart troubled?  Remedy that trouble with a knowledge that God is in charge!  “If He’s brought you to it, He’ll bring you through it!!”
