The Church in Exile

The Church in Exile: Living Faithfully as Exiles in a Foreign Land #1
Duration:35 mins 34 secs
The Church in Exile

Two Truths...

1. America is quickly walking away from God.
  • Judges 21:25; 2 Timothy 4:3
2. The church's influence is diminishing in culture.

Christianity in Exile?
  • Romans 1:18-32
  • Just as Israel was carried away into Babylonian captivity because of their sinful choices, American Christians find themselves in a foreign country.
What is Resilient Faith?
  • A faith that stands in the face of trouble, sickness, life change, and any challenges that might arise.
  • Ephesians 6:10
Bottom Line: Bible Engagement improves your self-esteem, family structure and social interactions. It is the single most powerful predictor of spiritual growth.

6 Truths about Resilient Exiles...

1. Resilient Exiles live for the sake of others. John 15:13

2. Resilient Exiles take risks for the sake of what is right.
  • When is the last time you took a risk for Jesus Christ?
  • 2 Timothy 1:7; 1 Chronicles 28:20; Job 42:2
  • Not taking a risk does absolutely nothing to change the current situation.
3. Resilient Exiles make prayer a mission. Mark 3:27
  • We bind the strong man through prayer.
4. One mandate for Resilient Exiles is faithfulness and holiness.
  • We have to be a church that is, in some ways, repulsive to the world because of our holiness and yet attractive to the world because of our love and care.
  • Matthew 5:13-16
5. Resilient Exiles know that God is at work for good even in exile.
  • Trials are part of the plan. James 1:4
  • Trials put our faith on the witness stand.
6. Resilient Exiles find their home in God himself.
  • Philippians 3:20; 2 Corinthians 5:6-9
  • We cannot look to this temporary world to provide what only home can bring.
  • Hebrews 12:1-2
