Lord, Teach Us to Pray #4

Question: Are you aware of certain situations or seasons that come up in your life where you know it is going to be harder to be a Christian?

Matthew 6:9-13

1. We pray in awareness of an enemy kingdom.
  • John 17:15
  • Jesus prayed in recognition of an enemy kingdom that was in conflict with the kingdom of God.
  • 1 Peter 5:8; Ephesians 6:18
2. We hang in there with the help of the prayers of others.
  • Jesus is teaching us to pray as a church.
  • Discipleship is a team sport!
  • The enemy preys on the isolated Christian.
  • Philippians 1:19; 2 Corinthians 1:10-11
3. We trust in the delivering power of God.
  • The enemy laughs at our attempts in our own strength to escape bondage/
  • 1 John 3:8; Colossians 2:15
  • You haven't just been delivered from the penalty of your sins, whatever that bondage was that the enemy was keeping you in, has lost all rightful claim over you.
James 4:8, "Submit yourself, then, to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you."
  • Submit...come in Jesus name...come covered in the blood of the cross and resist the devil and he will flee.
  • Jesus is teaching us that prayer is a defiant act of resistance.
4. We pray in hope of the day when only one kingdom will be standing.
  • Revelation 11:15-17
  • When you pray "Thy Kingdom Come" you are praying a prayer that is going to be answered.
Challenge: Pray this prayer... Reign in us as a witness that you will reign in all.
