Leaving the 99 #3.
Duration:32 mins 28 secs
Search & Rescue...Leaving the 99 #3

Every conversation you have has the potential to be life-changing.

John 4:7-26 - Jesus was guiding the woman through five levels of conversation, each more meaningful and significant than the previous.

5 Levels of Conversation...

1. Casual Conversation
  • Conversations begin when someone starts talking!
  • Romans 10:14
  • Casual talk is NOT about the person; it's about the circumstances or the surroundings.
2. From Casual to Personal Conversation
  • This mean you tur the conversation from your circumstances or surroundings to something personal about the individual you are talking to.
  • Natural questions are the best way to get more personal.
3. From Personal to Meaningful Conversation
  • A meaningful conversation involves a feeling or a challenge that they are experiencing.
  • You may not be able to have some kind of insight or information but you can still ask questions that cause a meaningful response.
  • If I reveal a struggle I am facing, then the person I am talking to will be more comfortable doing the same.
4. From Meaningful to Spiritual Conversation
  • This is where you are introducing a spiritual aspect to your discussion.
  • The best way I have found to do this is to relate the struggle the person has revealed, and then show how Jesus has helped you in a similar struggle.
  • Even if your situation isn't exactly the same, you can share a challenging time, and how Jesus helped or provided for you.
5. From Spiritual to Gospel Conversations
  • The key to getting there is to be able to share your own story.
  • Every conversation matters. Every conversation is an opportunity to point people to Jesus.
Final Thoughts...

1. The key to moving conversation is to ask a lot of questions.
2. Once you have taken a conversation to one level, you can pick right up at the level when you speak to them again.
3. Be sincerely loving and interested in the person. He or she matters to God and should matter to you.
4. Watch and be alert to where the Spirit is leading the conversation.
5. Anytime you move the conversation along...it's a win.
