Praise: Seven Words that Could Change the Way you Worship

Psalm 56:11-12, "In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Vows made to you are binding upon me, O God; I will render PRAISES to you."

Towdah – an extension of the hand. Thanksgiving. A confession. A sacrifice of praise. Thanksgiving for things not yet received. A choir of worshippers.
  • It is praising God with expectation.
  • It is used as an expression of confession, a way to convey trust in the goodness of God.
In TOWDAH we lift our hands in the presence of God, not only for what he has done, but also for what we believe he will do.
  • He will bring an end to all violence...so we praise him.
  • He will release us from all bondage...so we praise him.
  • He will heal us, both now and in eternity...so we praise him.
Worry or Worshiper?
  • It is impossible to worry and worship at the same time.
  • TOWDAH is reserved for people who instead of focusing on things out of their control, turn their attention to the God who is in control.
Matthew 6:25-34
  • Verse 33...this is TOWDAH. Seeking first the kingdom and running to King Jesus.
  • Paul and Silas are praising God even though they have no guarantee of deliverance from their current situation.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
  • God doesn't tell you to thank him for negative circumstances; he says to thank him even while you are in the midst of them.
  • When you do that...even before deliverance comes...you are showing amazing trust in HIM to bring you out.
A.W. Tozer, "True worship that is pleasing to God creates within the human heart a spirit of expectation and insatiable longing."

Confidence?
  • Psalm 50:15
  • Jeremiah 33:3
  • Psalm 34:17

Truth...
• Sometimes our ideas of deliverance and his don't match.
• Daniel 3
• John the Baptist
• Hebrews 11:32-40
