Duration:37 mins 45 secs
Revived Stones #11: Lessons from the Book of Nehemiah

Nehemiah 13
  • Somewhere between the end of chapter 12 and the chapter 13 Nehemiah has returned to his former job as cupbearer to the King in Susa.
  • Nehemiah 13:6, “After some time…he asked for leave from the king…”

Four Major issues…

1.      Tobiah – Nehemiah 13:6-9
  • Nehemiah determined he would NOT live with wrong in a place that was built for right.
2.  The house of God.  Nehemiah 13:10-14
  • A grateful Christian is a giving Christian.
  • When God’s people begin to decline spiritually one of the first places it shows up is in their giving.
3.  Life in the Community – Nehemiah 13:15-22
  • Nehemiah would not allow the Sabbath to be secularized.
4.  Leading the Home – Nehemiah 13:23-31
  • We would do well to treat sin like Nehemiah…chase it out of our lives.
LESSONS…

1.  Some people follow a person rather than God.
  • 1 Corinthians 1:10-13
  • Are we trusting more in the “right person” than in God?
  • If you are NOT following the commands and teachings of Jesus, you are NOT following Jesus.
2.  it is the nature of fire to go out.
  • 2 Timothy 1:6, “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you.”
  • There is NO SUCH THING as a no maintenance faith.
How do we Keep the Fire Going?
1.      Spend time with the author and finisher of our faith.
2.      Put the faith you have into action.

3.  Best intentions are not substitute for action.
  • Hebrews 2:1
  • James 1:22-25
