Revived Stones #10: Lessons from the Book of Nehemiah

Nehemiah 7:4
  • Bottom line...God had a much bigger picture in mind than just rebuilding walls.
  • Never underestimate the importance of simply being physically present in the place where God wants you.
  • Are you willing to be a forgotten nobody for the sake of this New Jerusalem?
  • Are you willing to lay it all down so that Jesus will be lifted up?
  • Matthew 6:1; Matthew 20:25-28
Nehemiah 11:1-2
  • When a man was chosen to move into Jerusalem, it appears he was permitted to decline if he wanted to.
  • Why? Because God wanted volunteers for this!
  • The people honored them because they volunteered to do what God asked them to do.
  • Remember...the ministry belongs to all the saints. about energizing people to move to the vision God calls them to.
  • Nehemiah didn't just see what was...he saw what could be.
Nehemiah 12:27-30
  • Before there was one moment of celebration, purification occurred.
  • The first step to a happy countenance is a clean heart.
A few things here...
  1. It is only right as they dedicate the walls that the people see & touch them.
  2. The people were bearing witness to the watching world that God had done the work and he alone should be glorified.
  3. This was a symbolic act by which they stepped out in faith to claim God's blessing.
Joyful Praise?
  • Hebrews 13:15
  • The people offered praise in 2 ways...
    1. Thankfully
    2. Loudly
Nehemiah 12:43 – this was the shout heard round the world.
  • Are you going to offer up muted praise or will you from the depth of your soul...adore our God who sent Jesus to save us?
