Revived Stones #4: Lessons from the Book of Nehemiah

Nehemiah 4:1-5
  • God takes us from the burned heaps of rubbish and sin and revives us, gives us new lives, and calls us to do what we were designed to do.
Nehemiah 4:6
  • the Israelites did not allow the jeering and threats, at least at this point, stop the work.
  • Why? Because they had a mind to work.
  • Luke 18:8, "When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"
Nehemiah 4:7-9 – the escalation...despising, jeering, mocking and now conspiring!
  • Why did God allow this to happen?
  • God is building something far more important and precious than a wall...God was building faith.
  • God worked, through opposition, to build their dependent faith in his power, rather than their own.
1. A Loss of Strength.
  • The newness had worn off. Halfway can be discouraging.
2. A Loss of Vision. Rubbish and discouragement are Siamese twins.
  • They had lost the vision of a completed wall.
3. A Loss of confidence.
4. A Loss of Security

Near the Enemy? Their proximity to the enemy increased their angst.
  • You cannot be bombarded daily by the enemy and not have it rub off on you in some capacity.
Want to Get Away? If we trust God, even in discouragement, what we find is that God often uses that to prepare us for a larger blessing.

Dealing with Discouragement...
  1. Unify your efforts toward a common goal.
  2. Direct your attention to the Lord.
  3. Maintain a balance between your thoughts and actions.
  4. Determine a rallying point.
  5. Develop a serving others Ministry
Discouragement is an internal is NOT a terminal disease.
