On December 26, 2010, the Elders approved and implemented the Beltline Church of Christ Permanent Endowment Fund, which was designed to provide opportunities for members and friends of members of Beltline to make gifts and bequests to the church, so as to permanently endow it with the financial support required to enhance, promote and improve the purposes, programs, missions, and buildings of the church at Beltline. The Permanent Endowment Fund is governed by a committee composed of a minimum of six voting members and three ex officio non-voting members. The Committee must be composed of an attorney, a CPA, and a licensed Financial Investment Professional (one of whom will service as Chairman, but Chair must be a Deacon), and the three ex officio members are the church Minister, the Elder serving as Treasurer, and the Elder serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Presently, the Permanent Endowment Committee is composed of: Calvin McBride (Attorney, Chairman), Mark Waters (CPA), Debra Curtis (accountant), Lee Clark (Financial Investment Professional), Charles Wilkes, Blake McAnally (Elder and Treasurer), Steve Chandler (Elder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees), and our Pulpit Minister. The Permanent Endowment Fund Committee is overseen by the Elders, pursuant to the By-Laws of the congregation.
In connection with the Permanent Endowment Fund, the Elders established the Endowment Scholarship Fund for the purpose of selecting and assisting qualified students, who are members of Beltline, in pursuing a post high school education at a “Christian” college or university, affiliated with the churches of Christ, by providing financial aid or assistance through certain scholarships based upon financial need. The number, type, and amount of any scholarships will be in the sole discretion of the Endowment Scholarship Committee. The Endowment Scholarship Fund is governed by a committee composed of a minimum of 4 voting members and 3 ex officio non-voting members. The Committee must be composed of the Chairman of the Permanent Endowment Fund Committee, 2 Educators (employed or retired), the Deacon supervising the high school youth, and the 3 ex officio members, which are the Youth Minister, the Elder serving as Treasurer, and the Elder serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Presently the Endowment Scholarship Committee is composed of: Calvin McBride (Chairman of Permanent Endowment Fund Committee), Randy Cross, Phyllis Brewer, and Robin Barker (3 educators), Tim Olinger (Deacon of high school youth), Donnie Lane (Decatur Board of Education), Scott Bailey (Youth Minister), Blake McAnally (Elder and Treasurer), and Steve Chandler (Elder and Chairman of Board of Trustees).
Shortly following the death of our beloved Minister, Mike Nix, the Endowment Scholarship Committee and the Permanent Endowment Fund Committee recommended, and the Elders created, the Mike Nix Preacher Training Scholarship as a sub-fund of the Permanent Endowment Fund. This needs-based scholarship was created to provide funds to enable qualified recipients of the scholarship to attend a “Christian” college or university, affiliated with the churches of Christ, and pursue a Ministry/Bible degree, thereby training the recipient for a career as a “preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” This scholarship is open to ALL MEMBERS of the church of Christ at large, and, unlike the Endowment Scholarship Fund, is not limited to members of the Beltline Congregation.
