Life in the Spirit

Life in the Spirit #6
Duration:40 mins 14 secs
Life in the Spirit #6

1. Experiencing the Spirit in our spirits.
  • Bottom Line: God simply did not outline for us a definitive way to know with absolute certainty that he is moving in our spirits about something.
3 Ways God Speaks to our spirit...

1. Particular Burdens as we pray.
    • Habakkuk 2:1
    • Prayer is supposed to be a two-way Interaction.
2. Holy Ambition
    • It is less a word from God than it is a holy discontent with a situation
Examples...
      • God never told David that he wanted him to fight Goliath.
      • God never told Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that he would deliver them from the firey furnace. Daniel 3:17-18
      • Nowhere in Acts does God tell Paul to go to Rome. Acts 19:21 & 23:11
Not every Ambition comes from God, but God certainly uses them to point true north for our lives, to show us where he wants us to go and how he wants us specifically to be involved in his mission.

3. Dreams and Visions
    • It is okay to be cautious or even skeptical, but we can't let caution turn into cynicism.
    • The Christian life is something you do With God, not For God.
2. Experiencing the Spirit in our Circumstances.
  • There are times when God does exactly the opposite of what you expected him to do. Genesis 27:2-4 & Genesis 35:28-29
Lessons...

1. Hold your interpretations loosely.
2. God uses our Circumstances to Guide us. Esther 4:14
  • When God promises to Direct our paths as we acknowledge him in all our ways, that includes what happens around us.
3. The presence of obstacles doesn't always mean a closed door.
4. An open door doesn't always indicate it is God's will.
5. We can't always explain what God is doing.
6. Following the Spirit means more than just reacting to my circumstances.
7. God's work in the past hints at his plans for your future.
  • We must trust that the God who cares for us more than we do for ourselves will lead us in his path for his name's sake, just as he promised.
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Acknowledging him in all your ways means availing yourself of every means of guidance he has put at your disposal.

Psalm 23
