Life in the Spirit #1
Duration:31 mins 44 secs
Life in the Spirit #1

Micah 6:8 – God requires that we DO¬ justly AND that we walk humbly with him.
  • Jesus said, "Follow me," not just obey my teachings.
  • He didn't want us merely to follow a plan or learn a doctrine, but to follow him.
Sending the Spirit
  • The first church was NOT primarily a study group, a self-discovery seminar, or a building program. It WAS a mighty movement of the Spirit that propelled Jesus' followers into the world, preaching the gospel.
How is God present with his people?
  • John 14:18; John 14:8
  • Jesus said that his presence inside them would be even better than his presence beside them.
Truth...The word of the gospel and the power of the Spirit always go together.
  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • Jesus tells us that it is only thought the ministry of the spirit, that we can understand the word.
  • John 15:26; 16:14; 14:26; 16:8
Ephesians 3:18-19 – Jesus prays that they would understand something that his beyond knowledge.
  • Two words for knowledge in Greek
  • One refers to facts, data, and cognitive pieces...the other refers to an internalized knowledge gained through experience.
  • Romans 5:5
Two Extremes...
1. Some pursue experience in the Spirit apart from the word.
2. Others seek to know and obey the word of God without any interaction with, or real dependence on, the Spirit.
  • The POINT? The Spirit and the Word work inseparably.
Walking in the Spirit...We cannot know the Spirit apart from the revealed word.
  • Whenever the Spirit is present, you are not thinking about him, you are thinking about Jesus.
  • If you want more of the Spirit...then seek greater knowledge of God's love through the gospel.
  • John 6:63
True Obedience...John 15:5, "Apart from me you can do NOTHING."
  • John 16:7
  • He would NOT be merely God beside us, coaching us and inspiring us, but God inside us, working in us and through us.
1 John 1:3 - The word issues the commands and establishes the foundations; the Spirit makes alive.
  • Every word of Scripture is a revealed word of God, but God desires more than for us to learn the doctrines and obey the precepts...he desires relationship.
