Focus #7 – Moving from Tradition to Evaluation

Focus #7 – Moving from Tradition to Evaluation

Traditions...
  • Traditions are not necessarily bad.
  • Traditions can be powerful because they have a way of reinforcing values and passing down truths from one generation to the next.
  • But, if we are not careful, our traditions, can get in the way of accomplishing the church's mission.
How do you change the to become more aligned with disciple making?
  • Truth you may not like...some things have to go in order for new things to come.
  • Mark 2 – you can't put new wine in old wineskins.
  • If we are going to make disciples, we are going to have to leverage the resources we have in the most effective way possible.
Bottom line: We are addicted to programs and we are tied to our traditions.

Momentum?

The RIGHT Momentum...
1. Plan with the process in mind.
  • Our process = Explore, Connect, Grow, Multiply
  • A healthy church will have effective programs at every phase in the process.
  • 88% had all of their programming at the connect phase.
2. Determine how we are going to measure success.
  • Luke 14:25-33
  • Facts are our friends.
3. Set Clear Goals.
  • Mark 1:38; Romans 15:22-24
  • SMART Goals
    • Specific
    • Measurable
    • Attainable
    • Realistic
    • Time-Bound
4. Carve out time for evaluation.
  • When we don't plan to evaluate, we keep doing ministries that are ineffective and not moving us toward the goal.
5. No Sudden Moves

6. Communicate.
  • The greatest mistake we make is assuming that we have communicated when we actually haven't.
  • Just because you say something once, doesn't mean people got it and are on board.
