Unashamed #1

The GOSPEL - Being able to articulate the gospel with accuracy is one thing; having its truth captivate your souls is another.
  • The gospel is Not just supposed to be our ticket to heaven; it is be an entirely new basis for how we relate to God, ourselves, and others.
The GOAL of the Gospel – is to produce a type of people consumed with passion for God and love for others.
  • A Christianity that doesn't have as its primary focus the deepening of a passion for God is a false Christianity.
  • Psalm 27:4; Psalm 63:1-5; Psalm 73:25-26
How Do We Learn to Love God? Matthew 22:37; 1 John 4:19
  • Love for God grows out of an experience of the love of God.
John 15:1-11 – Real fruit comes by abiding in the one we love...Jesus.
  • The word abide literally means to "make your home in."
  • True spiritual fruit comes from getting swept up in intimate, loving encounters with Jesus.
The Point...If you don't see spiritual fruit in your life, don't focus primarily on the fruits...focus on the love of Jesus.
  • Jesus doesn't tell us to abide in his fruitfulness...he told us to abide in him – in his acceptance given freely as a gift.
Love & Obligation? 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
  • Without love even the most radical devotion to God is of no value to him.
  • The gospel and the gospel alone has the power to produce love for God in our hearts.
  • 2 Corinthians 3:18-4:4
The Gospel Alone...
  • produces not just obedience but a new kind of obedience that is powered by desire.
  • Hebrews 12:2
Now Where You Want To Be Spiritually?
  • The answer is NOT to simply get busier for is NOT to get more radical in your devotion to God.
  • It IS to make your home in God's love given as a gift in Christ.
Growth? Growth in Christ is NEVER going beyond the gospel but going deeper in it.
  • The Gospel is NOT just our ticket to heaven it is to be the core of our entire lives.
  • 1 Peter 1:12
Make your Home in the Gospel...The gospel has done its work in us when we crave God more than we crave everything else in life.
  • God is not just after our obedience; he's after a whole new kind of obedience – an obedience filled with desire.
