Set Free: A Study of the Book of Galatians
Galatians 4:7, "You are no longer a slave but God's child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir." (NIV)
  • Being an heir is a great privilege but it comes with great responsibility.
  • When we live in the freedom of the gospel these responsibilities are NOT burdensome, they are privilege.
  • It is responsibility but it is also a joy.
  • It is responsibility but we don't shoulder this responsibility alone.
  • If you want to fast go alone but if you want to go far go together.
1. We are Responsible to Grow Together - Galatians 5:26-6:1
  • We are called to be par of a community of Christians...that means that we have responsibility to each other.
  • We are NOT in this just for ourselves...we are in this together.
Galatians 6:2, "Bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ."
    • We crawl down under the burden they are bearing and we share the heavy lifting.
    • Galatians 5:13-14
    • We are to love others as Christ loved us.
Galatians 6:1-5
    • Law of the Messiah? It is the law of love, the law of giving yourself in love and humility to the service of others.
    • As Jesus carried the cross for others, so Christians MUST carry one another's burdens.
    • All for each and each for all is the cry of genuine community.
2. We are Responsible to Persevere – Galatians 6:7-10
  • Carrying other people's burdens can be exhausting.
  • As children of God, walking in grace, we have had our burdens lifted and so we are free to give attention to others' burdens that they carry.
3. We are Responsible to Keep the Main Thing...the Main Thing. Gal. 6:11-18
  • The cross by nature is offensive.
  • If someone understands the cross, it is either the greatest thing in their life or it is repugnant to them. If it is neither of those it hasn't been understood.
Galatians 6:14
    • I am saved wholly and solely because of Christ work, not mine.
    • Galatians 2:20
